Academy’s MathCounts team sent five students to the New Mexico State Competition – seventh graders Mark Goldman ’29, Susheer Paladugu ’29, and Keith Lee ’29 and sixth graders Iris Huang ’30 and Sadye Bruce ’30. Despite stiff competition, the Academy performed exceptionally well.
The top 12 competitors battled it out in the countdown round, with Iris taking third in this challenging round — a performance that secured her a spot on the state team that will go on to compete at the national level.
“The problems were very challenging this year,” says the coach, math teacher Phihoang Nelson. “The mathematicians who worked through these problems with the coaches were stunned by the level of difficulty. Our students embraced the challenge and represented our school well.”
